First Grade
Halloween Stories
In October, students write Halloween stories. Their writing contains a main idea, at least two detail sentences, and a concluding sentence.  We edit their writing for capitals and ending punctuation.  Also, their sentences must make sense.  First graders learn that their work must be "good enough to put their names on it."

          "I made a Halloween picture.
This is a very big black cat.
          The cat hears everything.
          My Halloween picture is scary."
