Favorite Pie
Gram taught me the art of making the best flaky pie crust. She bakes all the time using strawberries from her garden, apples from her trees, or blackberries my cousins and I pick from the brambles near her house.
Pie Crust
2 cups flour 3/4 cup Crisco shortening - chilled
1 tsp. salt 4-5 Tbsp ice water
The basic Crisco recipe is well known, but just how the dough works each time is different. Gram taught me how to take a pinch of dough between my thumb and finger to know if it was ready to roll out and if not, how to fix it.
